Abstract: We consider simple drawings, a very intuitive type of graph drawings that has received much attention in the past decades. Simple drawings are drawings of graphs in which edges are Jordan arcs connecting their endpoint such that two edges intersect at most once, either in a common endpoint or in their interior (forming a proper crossing). We focus on the questions about the size of the largest plane matching and the length of the longest plane path in any simple drawing of the complete graph. We introduce a special type of simple drawing, which we call generalized twisted drawing, that we can use to improve the lower bound for both questions.[hide abstract]
